To-Read sites 4.0

I’ve just uploaded new version of To-Read sites extension into Opera Extensions portal.

By now extension is awaiting moderation and it should be available after 1st of January.

New version brings:

1. Sites synchronization which enables you share sites between many browsers.

I used Opera Link JS Api (thanks  Joel) to synchronize sites so all you need is My Opera account.

2. Turkish translation (thanks to Samet from operaturkiye.net).

All we need is to wait for moderation to be complete 🙂

Find To-Read sites on Opera Extensions portal.

  1. Hi, made a terrible mistake and lost 445 links, where are they stored ? I want to restore the file from my hdd. Thanks

  2. Michał Borek

    Pat, they are stored in Local Storage of extension. I do not know where specifically this but you can search somewhere in:
    C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera
    or in
    C:\Users\
    \AppData\Roaming\Opera

    I hope you’re gonna restore it.

  3. For me it would be great if the extension also saved the scroll position (?? sorry not how how to name at) of the page.
    Thanks for the extension!
    Best regards,
    h.

  4. hejka, super rozszerzenie. Przydaje mi sie bardzo no i wprowadzenie opcji “Lock newly added sites by default” było jak dla mnie strzalem w 10. Tak 3maj 🙂 & Thx

  5. Hello.
    The extension on my computer won’t work. The ‘to read’ icon is still available in the top right corner of Opera, but when I click on it, there appears a new window (just for a split of a second). And it doesn’t allow to work with the extension. I managed to read in this window that there’s something, connected with security sertificates for one of the sites I recently visited. But again, this window disappears right away and you can’t press anything there. I tried reinstalling the extension as well as the whole browser — no result.
    How can it be fixed? Because I literally can’t imagine using Internet without your extension. 🙂

  6. Michał Borek

    Nick, thanks for the feedback!

    Can you please clicl Ctrl+shift+o and switch to javascript, there should be some errors present. If so, please send it to me.

  7. Michał Borek

    Nick, there is a selection box where you can switch to “JavaScript” errors only.

    You can also clear the log, and then click on the widget.

  8. Fixed it!
    Thank you anyway for your work

  9. Michał Borek

    What was wrong?

  10. Actually, I didn’t. Yesterday it worked for a while, so I thought it was ok, but when I tried today – the same thing happened.
    I figured out, that it works only after I accept the security sertificates for this site: https://19-00.ru/ (yep, I’m Russian :). Don’t understand why so, because it used to work properly in any conditions before I happened to visit this bloody site.

  11. Hi! I can’t delete unused links ❓

  18. I’m havng a problem saving To-read file, i.e., it won’t save and the file size listed in the Save dialog box is huge.

    http://i45.tinypic.com/jzvfxx.jpg

  19. All of a sudden, i.e., one day to the next, the To-Read “default.*” file won’t save and it shows an enormous number of GBs in the Save dialog box, both with 12 beta and 11.62. A clean install of Opera 12 didn’t work either, neither with the old extension or starting anew; i.e., it just won’t save. I can understand weird things can happen with developmental builds, but happening with 11.62 leaves me puzzled. Any ideas? I had 75 items in the extension.

  20. Follow up: I just copied a backup file and the save box now shows as 19kb in parentheses, but it still save. I click Save, the list jumps in the box like something has been added, but it’s not there.

  21. Michał Borek

    I’ve just uploaded new version to Opera Addons site.
    You can grab it from here: http://greenpath.pl/wp-content/uploads/to-read-sites-4.1-2.oex or wait for automatic update.

    The problem with export is because of some changes in Opera since (I guess) 11.62. By now you need to save file manually after clicking export.

    The new version should also fix problem with “undefined” site on the list of sites.

  24. Michal – thanks but it doesn’t quite work:

    11.62 – the new file link you gave is seen as a .zip not an .oex

    12 beta – the new file seems to install correctly, but clicking Export opens an Opera window showing to a data:text/plain;chars… file, i.e., a one-line text file with all the entries. Is there something I need to change in Windows 7 or Opera file associations to make this work?

  25. Michał Borek

    Gene, just change the extension to oex.

    Please save the data shown after clicking export (with Ctrl+c).

    Btw. Why don’t you use Opera Link to backup your data?

  26. Ok, here’s what I found:

    12 beta – from the data page, use Save As and any type – *.* to save to disk

    11.62 – It’s a bit tricky. Change file extension to .oex, then “Open with” Opera 11.62 (otherwise opens 12, which is the default).

    I thought Opera Link is for syncing with mobile devices and other computers. I have a laptop for traveling and emergencies, but mainly use a single desktop. Is there another way to use Link with a single computer (multiple HDDs)? Thanks.

  27. Michał Borek

    What do you need export/import for?

  28. Oh, you mean syncronize to your site!

  29. 1) taking the list between Opera versions
    2) just installed new mobo/cpu and ssd and so had to do clean install of everything, sometimes more than once given problems with x64 versions of 12

  30. Michał Borek

    Gene, anyway you can (If you’re not afraid of it:P) sync with Link between two browsers on the same PC.

    Back to your problem, is it solved?
    Does the import work for you?
    Are there any problems with manually saving exported data (when it appears after clicking “export button”)?

    The Opera 12 may be unstable if it comes to extensions, because they’re changing something in extensions API. I’ll try to follow the changes and after final release I’ll check whether I can upgrade an extension to avoid such a problems in future.

    Honestly, I’ve been quite busy lately and unfortunately I didn’t have much time to spend on this extension.

  31. I’m very glad I caught you at the right moment to get the export problem solved!It’s not simple like before, but between your hint, a google search and and a little Windows know how I got it done.

    My post three back explains what I had to do. The way I saved (exported) with 12 beta is also the way to save with 11.62. The 11.62 item gives the steps I had to use to install the extension with that version. 12 does it the normal way.

    I wasn’t aware that one could sync between browser versions. Have to look at that. Thanks.

  32. I haven’t found a way to save the extension list with 12×64. The method I used for saving the file with earlier builds of 12(x32) is not working now with 12×64. Highlighting and saving as “all files” saves default as a .txt file. Stripping that, or however I approach it, brings an error message: JavaScript – To-Read Sites – Could not import data: Wrong data format. Any ideas?

  33. I don’t see my last comment posted yet, but here’s what I’ve found:
    1) can’t use Opera to export the list because it doesn’t recognize the saved ‘default’ file on re-import, even when saved as *.* (all files);
    2) If the text file to be exported, as showing in an Opera browser page, is opened with Waterfox (FF x64) and saved as *.* file, then it will import into Opera.
    3) After importing the file and enabling synchronization, Opera quickly reduces the To-Read list to recent entries (or last saved synchronization), in my case from 110 (2 x55) to 8. If the saved default file is re-imported, then the list holds (now 63 – 8 + 55).
    4) I’m not sure where all responsibility lies with this, but I filed a bug report – DSK-367928.

  34. Update: I was wrong about Sync (I had set it to 59 mins instead of 5 by mistake, so thought it was holding). When it re-syncs, my list gets reduced from 63 to 8, seemingly no matter what. Have had to disable sync.

Pozdrowiam

  36. Thanks for great extension for Opera!
    But, what is really needed for To-Read sites is the Hot-key for “lock-unlock all sites by default” and for “add current”. If you could do it, thats will be great!

  37. Michał Borek

    Viktor,
    I’ll try to find some time to do such a functionality.

    Thanks for feedback!

  38. Witam,

    [19/11/2012 19:32:45] CSS – widget://wuid-06064ac4-12d6-2a49-8765-0a2a9a2d207f/styles/options.css
    Linked-in stylesheet
    Invalid value for property: -o-transition-duration
    Line 203:
    -o-transition-duration:0 .4s;
    ——————————^

    co robić?

Znakomity program, polecam wszystkim!
    Pozdrawiam

  43. Michał Borek

    Cieszę się 🙂

    Pozdrawiam również.

  44. From Northem Europe

    Hey! I found your very good tool i.e. widget for Opera. So, I wondering is there way to add a keybord shortcut for adding to-read URL’s? e.g. in the same way a keabord shortcut Ctrl+D is for adding bookmarks. I think the proposed method can give more productivity. That could be more faster, when working with a lots of data and need them sort, translate etc.

    Realy grateful tool 😉

  45. Michał Borek

    Hello,
    Thanks for your suggestion. There is no such solution by now, but I’ll add it to my ToDo list.

    Regards

  47. Michał Borek

    Dzięki za info.
    Z eksportem – sprawdzę to.

  48. My problem with this extension is similar to Nicks description (2012/02/20 at 16:06). It crashes at the moment you want to use it.
    Ctrl+shift+o is showing the same message a lot of times:

    [17-12-2012 16:15] JavaScript – http://www.greenpath.pl/2011/12/to-read-sites-4-0/
    Unknown thread
    Uncaught exception: ReferenceError: Undefined variable: keydown
    Error thrown at line 17, column 3 in (e):
    keydown(e);

    Thank you.
    (Opera 12.11)

  49. ❗ I have an idea. I will implement it if you like.

    ➡ It would be really great if the Export option can export to BibTeX. This is the format:
    @ONLINE{Doe:2009:Online,
    author = {Doe, Ringo},
    title = {This is a test entry of type {@ONLINE}},
    month = jun,
    year = {2009},
    url = {http://www.test.org/doe/}
    }
    ❓ What do you think, is it possible?

  50. please this extension is great but with opera 12.12 crashes and I lost all my webs stored, I can’t open or use opera and I have to unistall the extension to use opera again, any fix? Thanks a lot
